For the last 20 years since the publication of Management teams, why they succeed of fail, Meredith Belbin has been the name in the dynamics of workgroups. He has advised the OECD, the US Department of Labor, the Commission of the EEC and many manufacturing companies and public organizations. He is also senior associate of the Institute of Management Studies in Cambridge and visiting professor in Leadership at Exeter University. Belbin's specialty is seeing to the heart of the behaviour of individuals within teams, and how the interaction between those individuals can make or break the team.

Examines the nature of work itself and provides a tool to structure jobs and people more effectively. Tasks are classified into colours - BLUE work (task orientated and structured), YELLOW (personal responsibility), Grey (unstructured), WHITE (future) and Orange (team responsibility). Perhaps Belbin's urge for classification went a little over the top here, but still interesting.
