Apart from adding a phrase to the language, this stunning book from 1970 was a piercing look into the future. It's social science with a twist that almost makes it predictive science fiction - in fact it was the basis for John Brunner's successful novel, The Shockwave Rider.

Toffler shows us a society where the rapid increase in everything being thrown at the consumer from product to information pushes them into overload. From changes to our working lives to government based on the Delphi principle (where a group of non-experts vote, then see the result and vote again, coming to a decision) supported by electronic means were fascinating as mere predictions back then.

Now it's even more fun as we compare the predictions with the reality. Not available immediately in the UK, but should be in a few weeks - if you're in the US (or want to pay a little more and can't wait) it's available immediately in the US, plus there's plenty of it to read online.
