Pursuit of the Proper Sinner
Elizabeth George has done it again, capturing with effortless ease a very British environment and circumstance - in this case a prehistoric stone circle in Derbyshire. Once more the noble Inspector Thomas Lynley and his decidely working class sergeant Barbara Havers are on the case - except poor old Havers, who has a hard time of it as any George fan will know, is in even more of a mess than usual. She seems to have decided to try to shoot her boss - even Lynley might have trouble being gentlemanly about this one. Another common problem of Lynley cases is here too - he's got a connection to the case. One of the two mutilated corpses was the daughter of his one-time mentor at Scotland Yard. As always with these books you have to suspend disbelief at the unlikely existence of Lynley at the end of the 20th century, but given that it's George on top form, with plenty of twists and confusions. If you've enjoyed her previous books, you'll want this one.
