Time for training is increasingly tight. It takes real dedication to take a whole day off work. These sessions, lasting one to two hours, are designed to fit around the working day as breakfast or lunchtime events, or to take up a manageably small chunk of working time. We have been running these bite size events since 1995 and they continue to be amongst our most popular (and cost effective) sessions. Most can run with any size audience.

Bite size sessions cost £800 each, or are available for small groups at our individual rate of £129/head (minimum 3 attendees).

Like all our sessions, pricing assumes you will provide the facilities and excludes VAT, books and travel expenses. To keep costs down you could omit giving a book to attendees, but we strongly recommend it as a very effective way to sustain the message back into the workplace, which is particular important with these short sessions. The recommended book(s) for the event are listed below when an event is selected.

Bite size events work fine stand-alone, but they can also be used in combination to provide a programme that really delivers change. Rather than have a preset menu, we will suggest a combination that suits your individual need.

Conversation Plus

An interview is a very specialized, structured conversation. This 1½ hour session provides key tools and techniques to get the most out of being an interviewer, whatever the context. As well as the skills of interaction it sets the scene from preparing the physical environment to structured note taking.

Recommended book: Instant Interviewing - £9.99 – interviewing is something many managers are required to do in their spare time or with little training. This compact book packs in the techniques and expertise that can turn any manager into an effective interviewer.

The Creative Team

Teams can deliver both the best and the worst of human interaction. A high-functioning team provides true synergy – more than the sum of the input from its individual members. A poorly functioning team will be pulling in so many different directions that the few achievements it makes are likely to have negative impact. For a team to be effective it has to be creative – to produce something that didn’t exist before the team’s intervention. The aim of this bite-sized session is to give a team the tools and techniques it needs to deliver creatively.

Recommended book: Instant Teamwork - £9.99 – over 70 games and exercises to provide ice-breakers, warm-ups and time-outs to enhance teamwork and group creativity.

Decision Point

Decisions define the development of an individual. This event looks at the different types of decision facing each of us and provides different tools and techniques to cope with the anything from the simplest to the most complex requirement.

The e-resource

The Internet, and particularly the Web, is a superb information resource - but it is unstructured and difficult to find your way around. There's a lot more to it than just typing a query into a search engine and hoping. The E-resource gives each attendee essential tips and techniques to make the most of the Internet, from meta-searches to using the real people via e-mail. The course and book are supported by a Web site with extra information.

Recommended book: The Professional’s Guide to Mining the Internet - £9.99 – a guide to making use of the most amazing information resource now on our desktops. Not a list of sites which will get out of date, but the skills needed to find your way around and get to the information you need.

It's a Deal

Negotiation isn’t just for the selected few – almost every interaction with other human beings where participants have differing goals results in negotiation. It’s at the heart of all management as well as any business undertaken with another company. In 1½ hours the participants get a chance to explore the essentials of negotiation and go away with a collection of tips and techniques to help them fare better in the next negotiation they face.

Recommended book: Instant Negotiation - £9.99 – negotiation is a part of every business contact. The techniques in this book enable you to get the best out of a negotiation, to know when to go for logic and when for gut feel.

Making it Happen

Getting others to buy in to our hopes and dreams, getting people to act and to support our intentions is a complex business. In an interactive session we explore the three levels of motivation – one to one, team and large scale – and how appropriate techniques can be focussed at each level.

Recommended book: Instant Motivation - £9.99 – whether you are motivating an individual, a team, or a large group, the quick and easy techniques in this book will help make the difference between almost and success.

Making the Choice

Choice is a fundamental aspect of life. We all make choices all the time. This unique session uses a powerful piece of software to help explain how we make our choices – and how we can make them better. Whether you are buying a new piece of equipment, hiring a person for a job or choosing an appropriate solution to a problem, choice will never be quite the same again.

Memories

Our memories are one of the most powerful, yet underused personal resources. This 1½ hour session gives an insight into how memory works and provides easy to use techniques to remember anything from numbers to names and faces. Better memory isn’t just an impressive party trick, it’s a powerful business tool.

The New Manager

There has never been a more difficult time - or exciting time - in the workplace. This seminar demonstrates the new skills that all managers and staff need to cope in a world where an MBA isn’t enough. Providing an overview on identifying your preferred work style, creativity, knowledge management, networking, leadership and thriving in the new environment of complex interacting teams and groups, the New Manager session helps participants set the direction for their management development. Attendees go away with a better understanding of the key role that creativity, communication and knowledge play in the new manager's role.

Recommended book: The Chameleon Manager - £16.99 – builds a new portfolio of personal skills to manage in the changing world of the new millennium, centred on communication, creativity and knowledge.

Organizing for a Chaotic World

This 1 to 1½ hour seminar looks at the organizational requirements to survive and thrive in the 21st century. It considers the mechanisms for balancing management and leadership, innovation and reaction, centralization and fragmentation. The approach is not to opt for a weak compromise but to straddle both extremes of the scale at once. DisOrganization will send the participants out with a new concept of how an organization can function, asking questions about the nature of the organization and the way it develops.

Recommended book: DisOrganization - £27.99 – a guide to changing the way a company works to meet the challenges of 21st century business in a creative way.

Paper Tigers

A huge amount of business communication relies on the written word, yet most business documents, from a hastily produced email to a major report, are badly written and fail to achieve their intended goals. With a wide experience of writing successful books and proposals, the Creativity Unleashed approach can transform written communication in an organization.

Recommended book: Instant Motivation - £9.99 – whether you are motivating an individual, a team, or a large group, the quick and easy techniques in this book will help make the difference between almost and success.

Screen Gems

Presentation skills can make the difference between success and failure for a project or an individual. All too often the same old tired presentations with over-full slides and ineffective handouts result in… very little. In the Screen Gems session we help make your presentations talked about, remembered and acted upon.

Recommended book: Instant Motivation - £9.99 – whether you are motivating an individual, a team, or a large group, the quick and easy techniques in this book will help make the difference between almost and success.

Something Completely Different

Our Something Completely Different range of bite-sized events are ideal for awaydays and other times when you are looking for something to inspire totally different thinking. These fascinating events provide stimulating and thought provoking insights into a popular science topic. Some of the sessions were originated at the world-renowned Royal Institution in London, others were developed specifically for these events. To make the session even more special, we can provide a popular science book for each attendee to accompany the session. Topics include:

  • A Brief History of Infinity - a remarkable exploration of twists, turns and paradoxes of the infinite

  • Relativity for Dunces - relativity is probably the best known and least understood aspect of modern science, but it doesn't have to be painful

  • Light Years - the 3000 year story of humanity's fascination with light

  • Who was the First Scientist - lively exploration that takes in what science is and where it all started

  • Entanglement - Einstein described quantum entanglement as 'spooky action at a distance' and simply wouldn't believe in it, yet now at least three world-changing technologies are about to launch on the back of this remarkable phenomenon

Stress Out

Stress is an issue that we all face in our work and home lives. This is not a conventional stress management course, but in this 1.5 hour session the participants gain an understanding of stress and build a strategy to balance stress for an effective life.

Recommended book: Instant Stress Management - £9.99 – stress can be a killer or the edge that makes for success. This book is packed with techniques to control stress and get the most out of a busy life.

Time Tamers

The trouble with time management is there isn’t time to do it – which is why Time Tamers was developed. This 1½ hour session explores the ten key areas where action can improve time management without resorting to complex systems that are never going to be used.
